  Training for mutual wellbeing is the motto of SAKURA SPORT CLUB, located at the John Paul II Polish Cultural Centre in Mississauga. Kris Tracz, 2nd degree black belt, who is the head coach and the president of the club, founded SAKURA in 1996. The main goal of the club is not only to promote the development of physical culture but also to form proper moral and social attitudes. Judo also develops strength, co-ordination, balance and mental health.
SAKURA SPORT CLUB is a member of the Canadian Judo Federation, an organization that represents us in competitions around the world and enables our judokas to compete in prestigious meets i.e. Judo Olympics or World Championships. Many medals awarded to our students are a proof of coach’s commitment and hard work.Our club is highly respected in Canada and ranked among top clubs in Ontario. Our members gather many medals all over the world.

Our top student is Michal Popiel and below are his most important achievements:
• Silver medal in 2001 Canadian Junior Championships in Kamloops, BC.
• Bronze medal in 2002 Canadian Junior Championships in Edmonton, AB
• Participant in the 2004 Academic World Championships in Moscow, Russia
• Silver medal in 2004 Canadian Junior Championships in Kelowna, BC
• Bronze medal in 2004 Canadian Seniors Championships, Kitchener, ON
• Bronze medal in 2004 Senior Tuzla Cup Berlin, Germany
• Bronze medal in 2004 International Judo Championships in Boras, Sweden
• Silver medal in in 2004 US Open (Seniors) in Las Vegas
• Two bronze medals in 2005 US Open and in Rendezvous Canada in Montreal
• Gold medal in 2006 Senior Canadian Championships in Winnipeg
• 5 place in 2006 Academic World Championships in Suwon, South Korea

  

Our other student Marcin Drozdz was awarded a Bronze medal in 2001 Canadian Championships in Kamloops (BC), Krzysztof Kmiecik participated in 2001 Canadian Judo Championships in Lethbridge (AB) and Filip Truskolaski in Abbotsford (BC) in 1998.

Our students also compete successfully in international championships, i.e. Am-Can in the US, Canada Cup, Ontario International Judo Championships or Tora Tournament in Canada.

We also have to consider our youngest judokas, who participate in numerous tournaments within Ontario.
